A portrait of Tobias Winkler, Customer Support Lab Manager in Hamburg

During the whole of his course of studies Tobias Winkler never left the ground of Hamburg, his home town and place of birth. Technically he is one of the high flyers: He obtained his doctorate with the grade summa cum laude, and he was one of three doctors honored for their performance by the Chemistry Faculty of Hamburg University in 2008.

Although he knows all the ins and outs of chemical theory, his chief interest is in practically relevant chemistry research. His dissertation in the field of applied chemistry was on the subject of The interaction of biomolecules with self-arranging monolayers, i.e. it was concerned with an important branch of nanotechnology. As KRÜSS was looking for a manager for the newly grounded Customer Support Lab (CSL) just as the experimentally talented interfacial expert completed his course of studies is regarded by both sides as being providential.

KRÜSS is continually opening up new fields of application for interfacial measuring techniques in cooperation with customers. Tobias Winkler occupies a key position: In the CSL he draws up feasibility studies. How can the customer’s problem be solved? What does the optimal experimental procedure for the measurements look like? Guided by these questions, Tobias Winkler looks into the customer’s questions and samples in the instrument pre-purchasing phase.

Guests of the internal and external training courses and seminars held by KRÜSS also profit from his knowledge of theory and measuring techniques. He imparts his knowledge, which extends far beyond the technical limits of interfacial chemistry, in a sovereign and competent manner.
